iPads at 15€? MediaMarkt makes a mistake with the promotion and takes a controversial decision

As Black Friday and the holiday season approach, consumers are eagerly seeking discounts. However, some Italian shoppers encountered an offer that seemed too good to be true.

On November 9, technology retailer MediaMarkt mistakenly advertised the iPad Air M3 for just 15 euros, despite its usual price exceeding 800 euros in Italy.

The nearly 98% discount predictably triggered a rush to the stores.

MediaWorld, MediaMarkt’s Italian counterpart, only discovered the online pricing error almost 10 days after it occurred. Consequently, the company reached out individually to each customer who capitalized on the offer.

In an apology email to the buyers, the brand expressed regret for the unintentional and “technically macroscopic and recognizable” error. The company provided two options: return the product or pay 619 euros, which reflects the difference between the erroneous price and the true promotional price.

Furthermore, the company offered free collection of the item for those opting for a return.

MediaMarkt warned that legal action would follow if customers declined both options.
