PS Deputy Isabel Moreira expressed deep concern over the Sunday legislative election results, describing them as “terrible.” She voiced worries about the new parliamentary configuration, highlighting that the Right would no longer require the PS to amend the Constitution, appoint judges to the Constitutional Court, and elect external bodies.
Moreira emphasized the importance of the regime as a guiding principle, urging responsibility and the need for collective reflection within the party’s appropriate bodies. She noted, “There are no sudden certainties today, nor is Portugal an exception to the European and global context of far-right growth, which now must make decisions as it leads the opposition,” in a Facebook post.
In her message, she expressed gratitude to Pedro Nuno Santos, who decided to step down as the party’s secretary-general, and supported his decision to resign.
To the Portuguese people, she promised to turn fear into courage and remain steadfast as an elected deputy. “I will work every day of my mandate, guided by the same enduring principles. The majority of the Portuguese people who built the most beautiful work of April – the social state – and those who feel threatened in their bodies, dignity, and identity. No one will let go of another’s hand. There are no expendable people in the discourse we consider effective. We all belong. I will be there to the best of my ability,” concluded the PS deputy.
