Isaltino Morais says that the PSD sees itself in his “social-democratic policies”

On Tuesday, the PSD announced its decision to support the candidacy of the mayor—who has previously led this municipality in the Lisbon district elected by the party—for a third consecutive term in the October 12 elections.

“My candidacy is independent, and it is based on this that we want to maintain the trust of the people of Oeiras. Naturally, all support is welcome, and this support from the PSD means that the party aligns with the social-democratic policies that have been developed by this independent movement over the years,” stated Isaltino Morais in a written statement to the Lusa agency.

Isaltino Morais was first elected president of the Oeiras City Council in 1985, on the PSD lists, subsequently renewing his term in the 1989, 1993, 1997, and 2001 elections.

In 2009, he once again won the Oeiras City Council, this time as an independent but interrupted his term in 2013 after being sentenced to two years in prison for tax fraud and money laundering.

In 2017, he ran again for the municipality as an independent and won again, as well as in the 2021 elections. Due to the term limit law, this year’s local elections will be the last ones at which he can run in the municipality.
