Isaltinos kidnapped… and returned. “In Oeiras, we give second chances.”

The saga of the cardboard Isaltinos continues to dominate the electoral campaign in the municipality of Oeiras. Earlier this week, the Inovar Oeiras 25 movement distributed several cutouts of the current president and candidate for re-election across the county. Isaltino Morais has accused the opposition of removing these figures from the streets, and now, Oeiras has awakened to a new wave of Isaltinos.

On social media, Isaltino Morais shared a video taking several of his cutouts, stating: “In Oeiras, we always give second chances. We have replaced the ‘Isaltinos’ that were removed by those who did not understand this initiative, so everyone who wishes can take their selfies”.

In the video, Isaltino criticizes those who “kidnapped” or “damaged” the posters, yet demonstrates that these actions will not deter him from his plan to offer a meal to one of his followers and a guest.

“In Oeiras, we love giving second chances. Everyone who wants to take selfies and win a meal with me now has a new opportunity. You know what to do: find the Isaltinos throughout the county, post a photo on social media with the hashtag ‘where is Isaltino’, and you can win a meal with me, along with a guest, at an Oeiras restaurant of your choice. On me, of course,” he reminded, as shown in the video below.

It is noteworthy that, after the Inovar Oeiras 25 movement first launched this initiative earlier this week, the opposition accused him of illegal actions, and many criticized him for “bad faith”.

As time passed, some of the Isaltinos disappeared, and others were vandalized. On social media, Isaltino accused the opposition of “kidnapping” while they retorted: “The only one we want to remove is the one in flesh and blood”.

Isaltinos

Undeterred, Isaltino returned with his cardboard duplicates to the streets today, just two days before the municipal elections set for Sunday, October 12.

Apart from Isaltino Morais, who is supported by PSD and CDS, other candidates for the Oeiras City Council include Ana Sofia Antunes (from the PS and PAN coalition), Pedro Frazão (Chega), Bruno Mourão Martins (Iniciativa Liberal), Sandra Lemos (CDU), Carla Castelo (from the coalition comprising BE, Livre, and Volt), and Miguel Peixoto Parente (supported by PPM and Nós, Cidadãos!).
