Israeli sniper photographed in Lisbon. Organization files a complaint.

The Hind Rajab Foundation has filed a criminal complaint and is requesting an investigation against Israeli combatant Dani Adonya Adega, who was reportedly located and photographed in Lisbon this July.

In a statement, the Brussels-based organization claims Adega’s role in “the Israeli genocidal campaign in Gaza, involving serious violations of international law,” including “targeted killings of civilians during a ceasefire and appropriation of civilian property for military use.”

The formal complaint was submitted to the Lisbon Department of Criminal Investigation by Portuguese human rights lawyer Carmo Afonso, based on extensive documentation collected by the foundation’s legal and investigative teams.

Dani Adega is described as a sniper affiliated with the 8114th Battalion of the Israeli army, having served in Gaza under the command of Brigadier General Yehuda Vach of the 252nd Division.

“This division was widely condemned for creating the ‘killing zone’ of the Netzarim Corridor, a deadly passage through central Gaza where civilians—many of them children—were systematically shot on sight by sniper teams and armored patrols,” the statement reads.

The Hind Rajab Foundation also alleges that Adega himself advertised his activities on social media, posting an image captioned “4 rounds, 0 misses.”

The publication allegedly occurred at the beginning of 2025, during a ceasefire agreement. “During this conflict pause, over 170 Palestinian civilians were killed, with sniper fire responsible for many documented deaths.”

There are reportedly other posts showing him inside civilian buildings in Gaza, in uniform, armed, and smiling.

The Hind Rajab Foundation argues that, under the principle of universal jurisdiction, Portugal “has the legal authority—and obligation—to detain suspects of war crimes found within its territory” and urges Portuguese authorities to detain Dani Adonya Adega and “initiate a criminal process in accordance with international law.”

“This is not just a matter of justice for Gaza—it’s a test for Portugal,” said a spokesperson for the Hind Rajab Foundation. “Adega is not hiding. He is freely walking in a European capital after boasting of killing a sniper during a ceasefire. Portugal must act,” the spokesperson added.

This complaint is part of a broader campaign by the Foundation to hold Israeli military accountable for war crimes and crimes against humanity committed since 2023, when Israel launched an offensive in the Gaza Strip.

Notícias ao Minuto is attempting to verify this information with the Public Prosecutor’s Office and is awaiting a response.

It should be noted that the war in the enclave was triggered by Hamas-led attacks on October 7, 2023, in Israel, resulting in approximately 1,200 deaths and over two hundred hostages. Israel’s retaliation, in turn, has caused over 57,000 deaths, the destruction of nearly all infrastructures in the Gaza Strip, and the forced displacement of hundreds of thousands of people.
