ISS? Common Front accuses Government of “continuing without solving problems”

“This government agrees with its predecessors (…), there are no objective differences between the behavior of the Socialist Party and now the Social Democratic Party and the CDS,” the union leader said in statements on the sidelines of the ISS workers’ strike.

“When in opposition, they were very critical; now, in their second term, they still haven’t solved any problems”, he added.

Today, approximately one hundred workers gathered in front of the Ministry of Labor, Solidarity and Social Security on a day marked by a general strike with “over 90% adherence,” according to Joaquim Ribeiro, leader of the Public and Social Services Workers Syndicate.

The union refers to a situation of “irregularity” where workers were initially hired through temporary employment agencies and have been performing “permanent functions at the ISS.”

When the Recovery and Resilience Program (PRR) was approved, these workers were integrated into the ISS under it, yet without binding contracts.

The union now accuses the Government of using PRR funds to prolong the precarious employment of these workers, who are demanding the regularization of their situation.

In statements, Miguel Ginja, a worker from the Porto district office, reported being in a precarious situation since 2022, having initially joined the ISS via a temporary employment agency.

Similarly, worker André Antunes, present at the gathering, admitted to being in the same situation since 2019 and called for Labor Minister Maria do Rosário Palma to show “sensitivity” toward the workers’ plight.

Carla Lopes also reports working in uncertain conditions since 2019.
