The sickness benefit is a financial aid provided to compensate for the loss of income for workers who are temporarily unable to work due to illness. So, how much can one receive?
The amount to be received, as detailed by Social Security in a practical guide on the subject, “depends on the duration of the illness”:
- Up to 30 days: 55% of the reference salary
- From 31 to 90 days: 60% of the reference salary
- From 91 to 365 days: 70% of the reference salary
- More than 365 days: 75% of the reference salary
According to Social Security, for all sickness benefits, the minimum received is either €5.23 per day (30% of the daily value of the Social Support Index – IAS) or 100% of the net reference salary (if this amount is less than €5.23).
The IAS value for 2025 is €522.50.
