It doesn’t seem to me that there is another government solution.

“I don’t think there is another government solution besides the one derived from the free, democratic and convinced will of the Portuguese people,” stated Luís Montenegro at the end of the election night when questioned by journalists about the conditions for governance.

For the leader of the AD, arithmetically, another government possibility would only involve a coalition between PS and Chega, which he did not consider “a credible scenario.”

When asked if he maintains the “no means no” stance towards the party led by André Ventura, Montenegro responded: “Regarding our commitments, we have already shown that we keep our word and fulfill it.”

The PSD leader expressed that he did not want to theorize about what other parties might communicate to the President of the Republic, instead stating his general position.

“In fulfilling the commitments I made on behalf of the AD, and in the spirit of ‘yes means yes’ to Portugal, I am certain that the sense of responsibility will ultimately prevail, not only for the full assumption of government powers but also for the conditions necessary to execute the government program over four years,” he said.
