
The official, speaking at the opening of a new citizen’s shop in Queluz, Sintra municipality, stated that “digitalization is not about placing digital tools on top of old processes […] it’s about rethinking the processes.”
Gonçalo Matias further explained that conducting “process re-engineering” involves “looking at the processes from the ground up, redesigning them from scratch, and putting technology at the service of these processes.”
The minister emphasized to journalists, on the sidelines of the inauguration, that the Government’s commitment is to reform the State without layoffs, adding that it is necessary to “simplify and digitalize.”
Regarding the type of model the Government will apply in terms of digitalization and technological implementation, the minister did not elaborate much but stated that they would look at the “best international examples.”
“We are looking at several comparative examples, we are conducting this study, there is an important benchmark from other countries that have very well digitalized their services,” the official said.
Gonçalo Matias also mentioned that he will present a “program with scheduled measures” concerning the technological transformation process of the State.
The new citizen’s shop in Queluz, located in the old parish market, features 27 counters and 37 employees, aiming to serve over 50,000 residents.
The building’s requalification was a project co-financed by the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR) and was completed with an investment of over one million euros.
