“I wasn’t aware that the deputy [Hugo Carneiro] was still speaking because, in reality, he needs to apologize to the media, the freedom of the press, and our democracy,” stated the Socialist leader.
Pedro Nuno Santos continued: “What we do is defend democracy, the right of the media to do their work, and the right of the Portuguese people to know the truth. That’s what the deputy should also be defending.”
It was reported on Wednesday that the Prime Minister submitted a new declaration to the Transparency Entity, mentioning more companies that Spinumviva worked with, on the eve of the televised debate with the Secretary-General of the PS, Pedro Nuno Santos.
During a visit to Barcelos, Braga district, in a pre-campaign action for the May 18 elections, the Secretary-General of the PS insisted that the Prime Minister is “the main factor of political instability” in Portugal.
“All of this means that the main factor of political instability in Portugal is Luís Montenegro. If, by any chance, for any reason, Luís Montenegro wins these elections, we are not free from having a political crisis again in a short time,” he emphasized.
Therefore, he argued that it is necessary “to ensure stability, to start a new life in politics in Portugal” and considered that this is done, “obviously, with the PS, which has a team with experience, with competence” to solve “the problems they couldn’t solve.”
“And to avoid constantly being in an environment of instability brought to us by the professional and personal life of Luís Montenegro,” he added.
According to Pedro Nuno Santos, what has been made public by the media is enough to understand “that Luís Montenegro does not have the conditions to be Prime Minister, nor to be a candidate for Prime Minister, and that he would only bring political instability to Portugal if he were to lead the PSD after May 18.”
