It was the largest Public Administration strike registered in recent years.

“This was the largest strike among public administration workers recorded in recent years, a fact demonstrating that the Government must change its policy concerning those working in the sector and the public services that require investment to fulfill their functions,” states the Common Front of unions in a statement.

The strike registered an overall participation rate of 80%, reaching 90% in the sectors of health, education, social security, finance, and justice, “with hundreds of services closed and many others operating only with minimum services.”

“Public administration workers delivered the response the Government deserves today, faced with the lack of solution for their demands,” emphasizes the Common Front.

Public administration workers demand a wage increase of no less than 15%, or a minimum of 150 euros, and the establishment of the Public Administration Remuneration Base at 1,050 euros, effective from January 1, 2026.

Additionally, they are calling for an increase in the meal allowance to 12 euros and the repeal of the Integrated System for the Management and Performance Evaluation in Public Administration (SIADAP).

Furthermore, they reject the labor legislation changes proposed by the Government, which “will apply directly or indirectly to public administration workers.”

The Common Front initiated a “major strike” of the public administration against the Government at midnight today, accusing it of deteriorating working conditions and disinvesting in public services.

The strike, which encompasses all state workers, also aims to push for salary increases, career enhancement, the restoration of public employment contracts, and the defense of public services.

The National Federation of Doctors (Fnam) has also called a strike for today, coinciding with that of the public sector, citing the refusal of negotiations over the medical career.

The Government submitted the State Budget proposal for 2026 to the Assembly of the Republic on October 9, maintaining the initial salary increase forecasts for the public sector as outlined in the multi-year agreement signed in November 2024 with Fesap and the Trade Union Front.

For 2026, the projected increase is 56.58 euros or 2.15%, rising to 60.52 euros in 2027 and 2028, extending through to 2029.

The current base remuneration for Public Administration workers, currently at 878.41 euros, will increase to 934.99 euros in 2026, inclusive of progressions, promotions, and salary agreements, totaling an estimated 1.248 billion euros in personnel expenses.

The Common Front represents 29 unions from all public administration sectors.
