Vila Real and Bragança are under a red warning due to heat until the end of tomorrow. The maximum temperature forecast for these districts is 40 degrees this weekend, with minimums expected to be above 19 degrees.
The Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) states the warning is in effect from 9:00 AM this Saturday until 6:00 PM on Sunday.
The districts of Viseu, Guarda, and Castelo Branco are under an orange warning, also due to the hot weather, until midnight on Tuesday, the 12th.
In these districts, temperatures are expected to exceed 35 degrees this weekend, potentially reaching 41 degrees in the case of Castelo Branco.
A yellow warning, the least severe on a scale of three, was issued for the districts of Viana do Castelo, Braga, Porto, Aveiro, Coimbra, Leiria, Lisbon, Santarém, Setúbal, Portalegre, Évora, and Beja due to the persistence of high maximum temperatures.
Only Faro escapes IPMA warnings—but just for this Saturday. This district will also be under a yellow warning due to the heat starting at 10:00 AM on Sunday.
On Sunday, Portalegre, Évora, and Beja (currently under a yellow warning) will see their warning upgraded to orange. In Alentejo, temperatures will fluctuate between 18°C minimum and 41°C maximum tomorrow.
In the archipelagos, even Madeira will not escape the heat. The mountainous regions are under an orange warning, and the southern coast of the island is under a yellow warning until midnight on Tuesday due to the hot weather.
The government extended the alert situation in the country until Wednesday, the 13th of August, due to the risk of forest fires.
The extension of the alert situation is based on two main reasons: the continuation of high temperatures across the country for the coming days and the reduction of ignitions due to the imposed prohibitions.
The measures in effect include the prohibition of access, circulation, and permanence inside forest areas, according to municipal forest fire defense plans, as well as the carrying out of burns and clearing fires, with previously issued authorizations being suspended.
The alert situation also implies a prohibition on carrying out work in forest and rural areas using machinery and the use of fireworks and other pyrotechnic artifacts, with previously issued authorizations suspended in this case as well.
