João Almeida leads UAE Emirates in the Tour of the Algarve and expects “a good show

The 49th Volta ao Algarve will take place between February 15th and 19th, starting in Portimão and ending with a time trial on the streets of Lagoa.

Portuguese cyclist João Almeida will lead UAE Emirates in the Algarve Tour, which will be held between February 15 and 19, stating that he is happy to be back in the race and that he expects “a good show.

In the 49th edition of the only Portuguese race of the UCI ProSeries circuit, Almeida will have his fellow countrymen Ivo Oliveira and Rui Oliveira, besides Swiss Marc Hirschi, Italian Matteo Trentin, and New Zealander Finn Fisher Black.

“Obviously it is very important for me to race in Portugal. The support for me and for the whole team is wonderful and I hope we can put on a good show,” said the Portuguese cyclist, quoted in a statement from the team.

João Almeida, 24, also explained that his physical condition is getting better and better, after being affected by a knee problem.

“I am improving my condition, after a small knee problem, but I am getting back to my form. I’ve been away from this race for a few years now and I’m happy to be back with a very strong team,” he pointed out.
