The communist candidate reports that the preliminary results indicate a slight growth for CDU (PCP/PEV coalition) and the retention of two councilors in the Lisbon City Council.
“We will be a determined, critical, and attentive opposition as we have been, and we will continue to present solutions,” said the reelected councilor during a speech at the Centro de Trabalho Vitória in Lisbon.
The candidate stated that the victory of Carlos Moedas (PSD/CDS-PP/IL) “does not meet the objectives he aspired to” and is “a negative outcome for the city.”
Regarding the coalition led by Alexandra Leitão (PS/Livre/BE/PAN), João Ferreira noted that it achieved a result in these local elections inferior to the sum of the results obtained by the coalition parties four years ago.
The CDU retains control of the Carnide Parish Council in Lisbon.
Previously, the head of the “Viver Lisboa” coalition list (PS/Livre/BE/PAN), Alexandra Leitão, acknowledged the defeat in the municipal elections and wished Carlos Moedas “good luck.”
“I am solely responsible for the defeat of the coalition I lead,” she clarified.
