
At the Gulbenkian Modern Art Center in Lisbon, Jorge Pinto stated that Portugal possesses “unique conditions concerning new fuels” and that TAP should be included in a public policy for the sector.
The candidate emphasized that new fuels are “essential for an ecological transition in aviation.”
“Why don’t we invest in a public TAP, coordinated with a new fuel production policy, to lead the aviation sector’s transition globally? I believe a President of the Republic should have an ambitious vision for the country, and in this case, for the national airline in Portugal,” he asserted.
Regarding TAP’s quarterly results, revealing a profit of 126 million euros, the candidate dismissed concerns, noting that the company only started posting positive results after being renationalized, reiterating his rejection of privatization.
On the general strike called by the UGT and CGTP for December 11, Jorge Pinto remarked he would be “surprised” if the strike did not occur but respects whatever decision the labor unions make.
The presidential candidate spoke to reporters during a visit to the “Complexo Brasil” cultural exhibition at the Gulbenkian Modern Art Center in Lisbon, which he described as representing the idea of a “culture that opens Portugal to the world.”
