The Journalists’ Union (SJ) announced the launch of a new reporting channel for threats and assaults against journalists, which will be introduced during a webinar on strategies to combat online violence against journalists, scheduled for Tuesday.
The SJ highlighted that threats, insults, and false accusations targeting journalists are a widespread issue. Amanda Lima, a journalist from Diário de Notícias, and László M. Lengyel, president of the Hungarian Journalists’ Union (HPU), will share their personal experiences and discuss their responses to the hatred they faced, with Amanda Lima addressing how her case led her to the courts.
The event, as noted by the SJ, aims to present strategies for resistance and reporting criminal situations. It will feature a dedicated online form provided by the SJ to record these incidents, emphasizing that online abuse against journalists is a global phenomenon.
