The theme selected for this third summit is ‘Iberian Cooperation as a Pillar for Europe’s Future,’ with the event expected to gather around twenty young leaders from Portugal and Spain “to discuss the main current challenges, ranging from energy transition and Iberian interconnection networks to youth housing, migration, and economic innovation,” according to the press release.
“With this Summit, the JSD reinforces its commitment to giving a voice to Iberian youth in building a more connected, more innovative, and more supportive Europe,” states JSD President João Pedro Louro, as quoted in the release.
Highlighting that “Portugal and Spain face common challenges, from energy to mobility and migration,” he argues that “the strength of the new generation is precisely in turning this range of challenges into cooperation opportunities.”
The summit’s program includes an address by the PSD President and Prime Minister, Luís Montenegro, scheduled for 17:30 on Saturday.
The focus of the address will be “the role of youth in strengthening Iberian and European cooperation, and in building a common vision for the continent’s future.”
Also on Saturday, the official dinner will feature a speech by Paulo Portas.
At the end of the summit, it is anticipated that the JSD, NNGG, and JP will sign a new joint declaration.
The first edition of this summit was held in Lisbon in 2022, while the second took place in Madrid in 2023.
