The mail-in voting process is currently underway, and according to union data, more than 2,600 ballots have already been received via mail, which indicates, as stated by SFJ to Lusa, that over 50% of members have voted by mail.
Running for election are List A, headed by Regina Soares, which has submitted candidate lists for all national and regional union bodies, including the National Secretariat, the executive body; and List B, led by auxiliary clerk Helena Oliveira, which has only submitted nominations for the National Council and the regional secretariats of the Center and of Lisbon and the Tagus Valley.
Regina Soares is part of the current union leadership, headed by António Marçal, who is stepping down from union duties to run for the Municipality of Lousã, representing the PS, in the upcoming municipal elections.
On July 3, in-person voting will take place at union headquarters in Lisbon, Porto, and Coimbra. The following day, all mail-in ballots will be counted, and it is possible that the election results will only be known over the weekend.
