On the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, the Judiciary Police reported a continuing increase in cocaine seizures, followed by hashish. To mark the occasion, approximately nine tons of various seized illicit drugs were destroyed.
The first meeting of the National Forensic Drugs and Toxicology Specialty Structure was also held, with the participation of forensic experts from across the country.
The Judiciary Police stated in a release that according to the law, “seized drugs by various criminal police bodies, customs services, and security with competencies in overseeing, preventing, and investigating such matters, are destroyed after the appropriate forensic examinations are conducted by the Scientific Police Laboratory, with only a sample kept in a vault until a final decision is made in the related case.”
The drug incineration operation is supervised by a commission comprising a Public Prosecutor’s Office magistrate, a criminal investigation officer from the Judiciary Police, and an expert from the Scientific Police Laboratory.
Each year, a report is produced by the National Unit for Combatting Drug Trafficking (UNCTE), presenting operational results from the fight against drug trafficking nationwide, compiled with data from the Judiciary Police, other police bodies, and customs and security services.
“This is a significant tool that enables a well-founded and detailed evaluation of the activities conducted by various authorities and entities involved, as well as the different indicators, inherent dynamics, and new trends in this type of crime,” it specifies.
