Kalorama Festival returns “more inclusive” with Pet Shop Boys and FKA Twigs

The lineup, featuring 41 performances across three stages, showcases many highlights, each with its distinct importance, according to Diogo Marques, director of the event’s promoter, Last Tour Portugal.

On Thursday, MEO Kalorama’s director highlights performances by Pet Shop Boys, a significant name in global music, The Flaming Lips, and Father John Misty.

That day also includes performances by David Bruno, Capital da Bulgária, Cara de Espelho, Sevdaliza, L’Impératrice, Kriativu Jam, Kierastoboy, Olof Dreijer, Roi Perez, and 2ManyDJs.

For Friday’s schedule, Diogo Marques emphasizes FKA Twigs, set to present new music and a highly anticipated show, and Scissor Sisters, returning to Portugal after a twelve-year hiatus.

Performances for the day include Cíntia, Best Youth, Azealia Banks, Heartworms, MAQUINA, Model/Atriz, Boy Harsher, Róisin Murphy, Viegas, Identified Patient, Kelly Lee Owens, and Helena Hauff.

On the festival’s final day, Saturday, highlighted acts are Damiano David, Maneskin’s lead vocalist embarking on his solo endeavors with numerous hits, and Branko, who has planned a special performance for the festival.

Saturday’s lineup also features Carla Prata, Jamine 4.T, Noga Erez, Jorja Smith, Yakuza, Badbadnotgood, Royel Otis, Bernardo Vaz, Anish Kumar, Jennifer Cardini, Ryan Elliott, and Daniel Avery.

In its fourth edition, Kalorama embraces inclusivity by enabling broader accessibility, including ticket price reductions and installment payments. The organization has also forged more partnerships with the city, providing discounts to Navigante pass and Youth Card holders.

Accessibility partnerships include brands offering free shuttles across the city for ticket holders, operating from 15:00 to 04:00, every half hour, linking Sete Rios to Parque da Bela Vista, with stops at Avenida de Berna, Avenida de Roma, and Avenida dos Estados Unidos da América.

The festival has also partnered with parking companies to provide special rates for attendees with tickets, alongside transport companies offering discounts to festival-goers.

Organizers encourage the use of public transport to ease the arrival process and minimize congestion at Bela Vista.

The site will include various spaces accommodating individuals with disabilities, along with a specially dedicated team for solo attendees, as affirmed by the festival’s Sustainability Director, Dora Palma.

The accompanying staff isn’t a personal assistant but aims to guide visitors to specific areas and assist with food and beverage needs.

This service is accessible upon arrival at designated points like workshops and platforms for the hearing impaired, with personnel available to direct patrons to accompanying teams.

This edition introduces an expanded platform for the main stage, with spaces organized by support type and additional accessible restrooms on site.

Consistent with prior editions, those with a 60% or higher disability, verified by a relevant certificate, are eligible for a free personal assistant ticket, while adapted parking and shuttle services from Estação do Oriente are also provided.

Support teams will be stationed at venue entrances, sound vibration zones for deaf attendees, and personnel offering Portuguese Sign Language interpretations of performances.

Audiodescription services will be available for blind or visually impaired attendees at platforms before the primary stages.

The festival also maintains a pause room for neurodivergent people and a workshop for minor wheelchair repairs, alongside motorized kits to enhance mobility.

Diogo Marques underscores efforts to ensure gender balance in the lineup, achieving equitable artist representation.

Sustainability remains a key focus, with ongoing food and material donations and measures to reduce plastic bottle use, such as installing water stations and predominantly using electric vehicles.

Visual Arts continue to play a significant role at a primarily music-oriented festival.

This year, Art contributes to a complete transformation of the festival’s day and night experience, altering stage aesthetics through light and digital elements, guided by Openfield and Malibu Ninjas.

Last year, the inaugural day faced lengthy entrance queues due to the cashless payment system requiring preloaded wristbands.

This year, the payment system remains 100% cashless, eliminating wristbands, and allowing for bank card or smartphone use.

Consequently, only attendees with three-day passes need to exchange their tickets for wristbands solely for venue access.

Diogo Marques expresses confidence that these changes streamline entry procedures.

The venue welcomes guests at 16:00 and closes at 03:00 the following day.

Three-day passes for Kalorama are priced at 105 euros, with daily tickets costing 55 euros.
