A 32-year-old man was arrested in the municipality of Guimarães on suspicion of crimes related to domestic violence, kidnapping, coercion, and illegal driving, announced the National Republican Guard (GNR) on Thursday, November 20, in a statement sent to Notícias ao Minuto.
Authorities reported that the arrest followed a complaint about threats and attempted aggression on a 29-year-old woman at her workplace in Vila das Aves, Santo Tirso, by her ex-partner.
During the investigation, it was discovered that the suspect had kidnapped the 19-year-old brother of his ex-girlfriend and transported him to her home in Roriz, Santo Tirso, intending to wait for the victim’s arrival.
With the authorities present, the suspect fled and was later located in the parish of Lordelo, Guimarães.
When confronted, the man, who lacked a legal driving license, attempted to escape from the vehicle but was intercepted and detained.
The individual, who had previous criminal records for domestic violence and illegal driving, has since been brought to an initial judicial inquiry and has been placed in pre-trial detention.
The incidents have been reported to the Judicial Police (PJ).
