A 38-year-old man was arrested on September 12 on charges of aggravated robbery, kidnapping, and possession of a prohibited weapon after allegedly kidnapping a 69-year-old man and shopping with his belongings in Vila Nova de Gaia.
The National Republican Guard (GNR) communicated that they received a report of a suspect shopping at a commercial establishment with a large knife in the Canelas parish.
Upon arrival, officers approached the suspect and conducted a security search, discovering a bladed weapon, leading to the arrest for possession of a prohibited weapon.
The suspect was found with third-party bank cards, a mobile phone, and a vehicle, along with recently purchased items valued at 1,103.10 euros.
Given the suspect’s criminal history for property-related offenses, the GNR initiated investigations to determine the origin of the goods.
The investigation revealed that the suspect had created a fake social media account to lure the victim, a 69-year-old man, and threatened him with a bladed weapon, according to the police.
After luring the man, the suspect coerced him into handing over his bank cards, mobile phone, 140 euros in cash, and his vehicle, detaining him at his home while committing the offenses.
The suspect, previously noted for multiple property-related crimes, including thefts and robberies, and having served various prison sentences for similar offenses, has been remanded in custody following a hearing at the Porto Judicial Court.
