A man has been charged with kidnapping, qualified homicide, desecration of a corpse, possession of a prohibited weapon, and minor drug trafficking by the Public Prosecutor’s Office. The charges relate to the death of a man whose body was found burning in a trash bin on a beach in Seixal.
Another man has also been charged with the crime of desecration of a corpse, as announced by the Lisbon District Attorney’s Office.
The indictment states that “the main suspect used the victim to obtain money through fraudulent schemes” and “punished the victim” when they did not hand over the money obtained.
In December 2024, the accused “lured the victim to his residence and kept him confined until he paid a debt.”
However, in January 2025, once again due to debts, “the suspect decided, out of revenge, to kill the victim.” The crime occurred on January 29, with the victim being shot in the head inside the suspect’s residence in Fernão Ferro.
After the crime, with the assistance of the second suspect, the man “transported the corpse in the trunk of a car to the beach area of Ponta dos Corvos” in the municipality of Seixal and placed it in a trash bin.
He then set the body on fire, “burning it to eliminate, prevent identification, and thus avoid the discovery of the crime’s authorship.”
Moreover, the prosecution states that the suspect possessed weapons without a license and had narcotics.
The main suspect is currently in custody.
The investigation was led by the Seixal sections of the Department of Investigation and Penal Action, with the assistance of the Judicial Police.
At the time the body was discovered, a source from the Lisbon Maritime Police informed Notícias ao Minuto that the corpse was “burnt” and in “decomposition,” making it impossible to confirm the gender of the person found.
The information was received by the Public Security Police, indicating that “a local citizen had spotted a body in an advanced state of decomposition inside a trash bin” in that area of the Setúbal district. The case was then referred to the Maritime Police, which sent a team to the location.
The case was subsequently forwarded to the Judicial Police.
