Kills partner and son in Montijo restaurant and flees. What is known

A man fatally shot two other men, aged 60 and 22, on Sunday night in a restaurant located in Montijo, Setúbal district.

The incident reportedly stemmed from a disagreement between the suspect and the older victim, who was his business partner.

Following the crime, the alleged perpetrator fled and remains at large.

The victims were transported to Barreiro Hospital but succumbed to their injuries.

Dispute Between Partners Ends in Father and Son Murder

Details have since emerged about the tragedy. One of the victims, as reported, is Pedro Ganança, 60. The other is his 22-year-old son.

The suspect has been identified as José Augusto, a business partner of Pedro. The two had an argument prior to the double homicide.

The crime occurred precisely at the restaurant they co-owned, O Apeadeiro de Sarilhos, in Montijo.

It is noted that José Augusto is well-known in the region. Besides being a co-owner of the restaurant, he also owns a car dealership. After shooting the two victims, he fled in a gray Mercedes.

Authorities are currently searching for him. Emergency services and the National Republican Guard (GNR) were present at the scene. The investigation has been handed over to the Judiciary Police (PJ) due to the nature of the crime, which was reported at 7:55 pm.

Venue Opened in February

In February, Pedro and José inaugurated O Apeadeiro de Sarilhos. The restaurant, offering various snacks, quickly gained popularity in the area.

During the month of opening, Pedro Ganança gave an interview where he discussed the concept of the venue and his now implicated partner.

The partners had refurbished the Apeadeiro de Sarilhos, which served as a train stop between 1908 and 1989, but was subsequently abandoned.

Pedro and José decided to revitalize it into a restaurant to “once again be a stage of emotions.”

The venue, named after the original stop, officially opened on February 1. Pedro, of mixed Portuguese and Brazilian heritage, relocated to Portugal during the pandemic in 2020 seeking to “broaden horizons and find new ideas” for his event business in Brazil. He eventually decided to settle on the South Bank.

O Apeadeiro de Sarilhos also served as a small museum with pieces from old locomotives, photographs, and other donated artifacts honoring the memories of the former rail stop.

The restaurant can accommodate over 200 guests, including an outdoor area, and provides access to a playground and a soccer field.

It is currently unknown if the crime was witnessed by any patrons or if the venue was closed at the time of the incident.
