“Knows well where to relax.” Otter ‘caught’ bathing in the Vez River

An otter was spotted taking a bath in the Vez River in Arcos de Valdevez.

“In the Vez River… Look who showed up! This otter knows well where to relax, an excellent indicator of the river’s environmental quality. Nature at its best!” remarked Joaquim Campos, president of the Cabana Maior council, in a post made on the social network Facebook on Friday.

In the images, which can be viewed in the gallery above, the animal is seen diving into the waters “rich in trout,” which “attracts numerous enthusiasts during fishing season,” according to the region’s tourism page.

The river, which originates in Serra do Peneda/Soajo, is the most significant tributary of the Lima River. The municipality also highlighted that it “flows into the parish of Souto at the place called Milhundos, extending about 40 kilometers, with an altitude of 1,300 meters, traversing from end to end the municipality of Arcos de Valdevez.”

“The Vez River is enigmatic and full of secrets for those who try to get to know it from its source to its mouth. From the parish of Sistelo, upstream, it becomes difficult to follow its banks, which are quite rugged and dangerous, with some impassable places, but nature rewards those who visit with great beauty,” it reads.
