Labor review is a “social setback”, says aviation union

“Under the guise of ‘modernizing’ labor relations, this reform represents a social and legal setback, weakening collective bargaining, limiting union action, and devaluing the role of workers,” the statement reads.

The National Union of Civil Aviation Flight Personnel (SNPVAC) deems the proposals “a direct attack on the dignity of work” and “trade union democracy itself.”

“By promoting these changes, the government forsakes social dialogue and chooses to favor employer interests at the expense of workers,” the union emphasizes.

SNPVAC has requested a hearing with the Committee on Labor, Social Security, and Inclusion “to denounce this setback and demand that parliament ensures respect for the fundamental rights of workers.”

The union identifies some of the most “serious” measures, including the “reintroduction of the individual working hours bank” and the “‘purchase’ of vacation days, which turns the right to rest into merchandise.”

The government’s draft for revising labor legislation, currently under debate with social partners, involves the review of “over a hundred” articles of the Labor Code.

The proposed changes, dubbed “Work XXI,” were introduced by the government on July 24 as a “profound” review and aim to address areas from parenthood (with changes to parental leave, breastfeeding, and gestational mourning) to flexible work, corporate training, and the trial period of work contracts. It also proposes expanding the sectors required to maintain minimum services during strikes.
