Lady Gaga has received 12 nominations at this year’s MTV Video Music Awards, including Video of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best Collaboration for “Die with a Smile,” a duet with Bruno Mars. Mars is the second most-nominated artist this year, as announced by MTV in a statement.
This year’s top nominated artists include Kendrick Lamar with 10 nominations; ROSÉ and Sabrina Carpenter, each with eight; and Ariana Grande and The Weeknd, each with seven. Billie Eilish received six nominations, followed by Charlie XCX with five. Bad Bunny, Doechii, Ed Sheeran, Jelly Roll, Miley Cyrus, and Tate McRae each received four nominations.
For the Video of the Year category, alongside Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars, nominees include Ariana Grande for “Brighter Days Ahead,” Billie Eilish with “Birds of a Feather,” Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us,” ROSÉ and Bruno Mars for “APT.,” Sabrina Carpenter’s “Manchild,” and The Weeknd with “Timeless” featuring Playboi Carty.
In the Song of the Year category, competition includes “Die with a Smile”; Alex Warren’s “Ordinary”; Billie Eilish’s “Birds of a Feather”; Doechii’s “Anxiety”; Ed Sheeran’s “Sapphire”; Gracie Abrams’ “I Love You, I’m Sorry”; Lorde’s “What Was That”; “APT.” by ROSÉ and Bruno Mars; Tate McRae’s “Sports Car”; and “Timeless” by The Weeknd featuring Playboi Carty.
Alongside Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars, nominees for Best Collaboration include Bailey Zimmerman and Luke Combs for “Backup Plan,” Kendrick Lamar and Sza for “Luther,” Post Malone and Blake Shelton for “Pour Me a Drink,” ROSÉ and Bruno Mars with “APT.,” and Selena Gomez with benny blanco for “Sunset BLvd.”
This year, two new categories have been introduced: Best Country and Best Pop Artist.
Fans can vote for their favorite artists in 19 gender-neutral categories, including Video of the Year, Best Collaboration, and Artist of the Year, on www.vma.mtv.com until September 5. The Best New Artist category will remain open until the day of the show.
The VMA ceremony will take place on the night of September 7 (early September 8 in Lisbon) in New York City at the UBS Arena and will be broadcast live. In Portugal, the event will be aired starting at 00:00 on September 8, with the pre-show, and the main event will start one hour later.
