Last level crossing closed in Golegã and new road crossing opens

The company announced that the project involves the reconfiguration of the Mato Miranda station, which includes relocating the Zona Neutra of the Entroncamento and the main line of branches (upcoming route), aiming to enhance “the safety and efficiency of railway and road traffic”.

The new infrastructure will provide an efficient and safe crossing for all road users, significantly improving road and railway traffic safety and flow, while maintaining local traffic on EN365-4, according to IP.

The layout of the road overpass allows for the crossing of Rua do Saldanha through an agricultural passage, connecting Quinta da Melhorada in the south to the locality of Mato de Miranda in the north.

With an investment of around 20 million euros, the project also aims to eliminate capacity constraints on the railway infrastructure between Vale de Santarém and the Entroncamento, facilitating the crossing of 750-meter-long trains.

Besides the elimination of the level crossing, the works include the construction of two holding tracks at the Mato Miranda railway station in Golegã, the installation of electronic signaling systems integrated into the Lisbon Operational Command Center, and the electrification of the main line of branches and access to the Vale do Tejo Terminal.

The project covers the municipalities of Santarém, Golegã, Torres Novas, and Entroncamento. It also includes the modernization of the reception/dispatch yard at the Entroncamento sorting station, as well as the construction of a pedestrian overpass and an agricultural underpass.

The company emphasizes that this project represents an “important milestone for the municipality of Golegã”, reflecting a commitment to “improving infrastructure and citizen safety”.
