The advancement of schedules concerning regimental votes was included in the summary of today’s leaders’ conference meeting.
In June, during the leaders’ conference, it was decided that the last plenary session with votes would occur on the upcoming 18th, a Friday, following the debate on the State of the Nation, with Prime Minister Luís Montenegro in attendance.
Today, however, at the end of the parliamentary leaders’ conference meeting, the election of the new Ombudsman (which requires a two-thirds majority) has been announced for the 16th, instead of the 18th.
Later this afternoon, in the plenary session, social-democratic leader Hugo Carneiro requested an agreement on the Government’s proposal to reduce IRS by the 16th, indicating an advancement of the voting schedule.
According to the spokesperson for the parliamentary leaders’ conference, social-democratic deputy Francisco Figueira, the last plenary with votes will indeed occur on the 16th, with the State of the Nation debate still scheduled for the 17th.
In previous years, the State of the Nation debate was also the last event before the summer break in parliamentary activities.
The committees will meet until July 25, mainly to finalize reports.
