LAVADIAS returns to Pico with the premiere of the new film by Cláudio Jordão

The MiratecArts association, in partnership with the municipality of Lajes, is launching its fourth edition with the new film by Cláudio Jordão, ‘Vasco da Gama – O Mar Infinito’, as announced in a press release by the organization.

“The festival focuses on the theme of water, seas, and oceans that surround us,” stated Terry Costa, the artistic director of MiratecArts and founder of LAVADIAS, as quoted in the same release.

The fourth edition opens with Cláudio Jordão’s new film, ‘Vasco da Gama – O Mar Infinito’, which after premiering at the AVANCA festival last week, now arrives on the island of Pico.

According to MiratecArts, the film revisits Vasco da Gama’s maritime journey to India, crossing the Atlantic and Indian Oceans, “facing sea storms, in one of the most famous voyages in history.” The first night of the festival is also dedicated to short films, featuring works by Fu Le, Joana Saraiva Marques, and Salvador Lobo Xavier, among others.

‘Terror nas Profundezas’ by Australian director Matthew Holmes fills the action-packed night, while the family-themed evening will offer the opportunity to watch the Oscar-winning animated film ‘Flow – À Deriva’ by Gints Zilbalodis.

All screenings are free to attend and begin at 9:30 PM local time (10:30 PM in Lisbon), with the audience invited to bring blankets, quilts, or cushions for added comfort while enjoying outdoor cinema, the organization added.
