The Parliamentary Committee on Environment and Sustainable Development unanimously decided this afternoon to lift the parliamentary immunity of José Pacheco, a deputy from Chega, allowing him to be heard in court as a defendant, confirmed Flávio Soares, the committee president, at the conclusion of a meeting held in Horta.
The social-democratic deputy did not reveal the crime the regional leader of Chega, who also leads the parliamentary group in the Legislative Assembly of the Azores, is accused of, citing that the case is “under legal confidentiality.” However, José Pacheco clarified that the accusation pertains to the alleged “improper invoicing” by the party.
“It’s a formality, a small paper that was missed, didn’t arrive on time, but it will be easily resolved and clarified. It’s nothing special! Nobody stole anything! Nobody killed anyone!” the Chega deputy downplayed.
According to José Pacheco, the judicial process is linked to a dinner involving party militants and supporters that took place in 2020, where not all expenses incurred were properly invoiced.
The Chega-Azores leader stated he maintains “a clear conscience” regarding this process and assured his willingness to cooperate with justice.
“I agree! There must be transparency in these matters. There was a small error regarding a document that should have appeared, to formalize the entry of some amounts, which are very minor,” emphasized José Pacheco, recalling that the party had previously been alerted to this flaw.
