The regional committee of the Socialist Party (PS) from the Azores convened in Ponta Delgada on São Miguel Island to deliberate on the list of candidates for the national elections scheduled for May 18.
In a press release, the PS stated that the list embodies a balance of “renewal, experience, and regional representation.”
According to the regional leader of the PS/Azores, the list comprises 50% women and 50% men, with a renewal rate of 70% and an average age of 40 years.
On the sidelines of the Regional Committee meeting, Francisco César noted that the list ensures “representation from the nine islands of the archipelago and includes individuals capable of advocating for the interests of the Azores with quality and competence.”
Francisco César, as cited in the statement, emphasized that his candidacy does not affect his role as the leader of the PS/Azores.
“My work as the president of the PS will remain unchanged, and my work as a deputy in the Assembly of the Republic, should we be entrusted with confidence, will also continue in the same vein,” he assured.
He asserted that “the enhanced presence of the PS/Azores in the Assembly of the Republic is vital to ensure the region’s voice is heard during decisive moments.”
An economics graduate, the candidate was born in Lisbon in 1978. He serves as the vice-president of the PS parliamentary group in the Assembly of the Republic and is an elected member of the PS national secretariat.
The President of the Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, announced that the early legislative elections will take place on May 18, following the political crisis that led to the resignation of the PSD-led government after its confidence motion was rejected in parliament.
