The leader of the Diabos Vermelhos fan group, Sérgio Caetano, who supported Sport Lisboa e Benfica, was reportedly found dead with a gunshot wound to the head on Friday night.
Caetano was discovered by a passerby inside a vehicle near Estádio da Luz in Lisbon. The firearm was found next to the body, and the vehicle was located in a bushy area.
Authorities, including the PSP police who are on the scene, confirmed that data collection is underway. The Polícia Judiciária (PJ) has also been contacted for a response.
Reports indicate Caetano’s family filed a missing person report earlier in the day after he had not been seen since dropping his son at school.
Another member of the Diabos Vermelhos has reportedly been missing for two days.
The fan group, established in 1982, is the oldest supporting the Eagles and consists of about 2,000 members.
