League Against Cancer accuses Government of insufficient response for patients

The president of the Liga, Vitor Veloso, acknowledged the government’s effort but remarked that it was insufficient for an adequate response. He emphasized the need for more resources and other incentive programs, similar to those in previous years.

Vitor Veloso also highlighted the impact of an increasing waiting list on the quality of life for both the patients and their families, noting that the government’s response did not meet the patients’ needs.

The Health Regulatory Entity (ERS) reported today that over 7,500 patients were waiting for cancer surgery by the end of June, the majority in public hospitals, where the waiting list saw a 4.7% increase.

The data is part of a monitoring report on waiting times within the National Health Service (SNS) for the first half of this year, indicating that on June 30, there were 7,538 patients on the waiting list for scheduled cancer surgery, with 7,468 of them in the public sector.
