Pedro Nuno Santos, the Secretary-General of the Socialist Party (PS), visited the Benfica Municipal Market on Wednesday morning. He was there to support the Socialist candidate for Lisbon City Council, Alexandra Leitão. Santos declined to discuss post-election scenarios or the possibility of forming a Left-wing coalition.
“We will work to engage with the Portuguese people, listen to them, present our proposals, and aim for a victory on May 18,” Santos told reporters. “We are not considering any scenarios nor will we predict anything. Our sole focus is on victory, which is the only outcome that interests us, and we will concentrate on that in the coming weeks,” he stated.
Portugal is set to hold snap legislative elections on May 18, a decision made by President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa on March 13. This announcement followed two days after Parliament rejected a confidence motion for the government, leading to the resignation of the PSD/CDS administration.
The television debates for the upcoming May 18 legislative elections have already started. On Wednesday, a debate is scheduled between Paulo Raimundo of the CDU and Rui Tavares of Livre at 6:00 PM on SIC Notícias.
