‘Legends Day’: Rod Stewart confirmed for Rock in Rio Lisbon

The Rock in Rio Lisboa festival has announced its ‘Legends Day’, which will take place on June 27 next year, featuring a lineup headlined by British legend Rod Stewart. The iconic band Xutos & Pontapés will also be part of this musical celebration.

“The 11th edition of Rock in Rio Lisboa is gearing up to make history!” the event organizers said, announcing a day dedicated to celebrating “artists who have marked generations and continue to inspire the future.”

The headliner for this day is “one of the greatest legends in the history of music and a significant figure on the international scene”: none other than Rod Stewart, the ‘sir’ of British rock.

Stewart performed at the Meo Arena earlier this year, on May 13, as part of his farewell tour, ‘One Last Time’, which sold out the Portuguese venue. He made it clear at the time that he had no intention of leaving the stage permanently.

This confirmation also marks Stewart’s return to Rock in Rio Lisboa, following his participation in the 2008 edition. This time, the event organizers promise “a special show” that will feature performances of his music from start to finish.

The beloved band Xutos & Pontapés will also be returning to this edition of the festival, as they have been a presence since its inception. This time, “the group will curate the Music Valley Stage for the first time, under a name full of significance: ‘Class of 79’.”

Joining this stage will be other historic national rock bands: GNR, UHF, and TAXI.

“To curate the day on June 27 at the Music Valley Stage is a huge honor. We’ve experienced so many memorable moments at Rock in Rio Lisboa, but this one will be special,” said the band Xutos & Pontapés.

They further explained: “‘Class of 79’ is the name we chose for this curatorship and represents the beginning of everything: the year the Xutos were born and the start of a golden era for Portuguese rock. It is a celebration of music and national rock, and being able to include bands that originated around the same time and helped shape its DNA makes it all the more special.”

Additionally, Rock in Rio Lisboa 2026 has announced the performance of the Portuguese musician Syro, who will open the day on the Super Bock Stage, “representing the contemporaneity of national music.”

During the first weekend of the 11th edition, performers include Katy Perry, Pedro Sampaio, Calema, and Napa on Saturday, the 20th; as well as Linkin Park, Cypress Hill, Kaiser Chiefs, and Grandson.
