Five months after the legislative elections, voting surveys show that José Luís Carneiro’s Socialist Party (PS) is gaining ground in voter intentions, overtaking Chega. However, the most notable increase is that of the Democratic Alliance (AD).
A Pitagórica survey on the legislative elections, conducted for JN, TSF, TVI, and CNN, indicates no substantial changes among the three main political forces. However, there are shifts in second and third places.
The study reveals that the PSD/CDS coalition led by Prime Minister Luís Montenegro has grown and now holds between 32% and 38% of voting intentions, while Chega has lost ground.
José Luís Carneiro’s PS stands at 26.4% in voting intentions, significantly ahead of André Ventura’s party, which has 16.7% support.
Meanwhile, Livre (5.7%) is ahead of Iniciativa Liberal (5.3%), and the Bloco de Esquerda continues to lose supporters (0.7%). Additionally, CDU (2.4%) and PAN (0.9%) have both lost half a point since the May 18 legislative elections.
The PSD is the party that is growing the most, showing a difference of about 22 percentage points compared to its main right-wing rival. This suggests that if legislative elections were held now, the AD would win.
Since the last legislative elections, Luís Montenegro has gained 5.8 percentage points, while José Luís Carneiro has increased by 3 points. Chega, on the other hand, has dropped by 5.9 percentage points.
The survey was conducted between November 5 and 14, aiming to gauge Portuguese opinions on topics related to the 2026 presidential elections, according to CNN.
