Lidl announced late last week the opening of two new stores in the Central region, specifically in Anadia and Porto de Mós, resulting from a total investment of 14.6 million euros.
In a statement, the supermarket group explains that these openings reflect a “continuous commitment to store modernization and providing a more agile, comfortable, and sustainable shopping experience.”
“These stores contribute to the local economy by creating new jobs and strengthening the presence of Lidl Portugal in the Central region,” it adds.
The new Lidl store in “Anadia, located on Rua das Flores, near the IC2 roundabout, replaces the old store opened in 2000, increasing the sales area by more than 500 m² to 1,580 m².”
The “Porto de Mós store, located on Estrada da Calvaria, Calvaria de Cima, replaces the store that had been operating in Batalha since 2009. This new store features a sales area of 1,585 m², reflecting an increase of more than 700 m² compared to the old Batalha store.”
“The new spaces offer a more modern, functional, and sustainable concept, with glazed facades, natural light, LED lighting, and wide aisles ensuring easy circulation. The fresh produce and refrigerated vegetable sections are located at the entrance, followed by a fully remodeled bakery area. They also include a self-checkout area,” according to the same statement.
The group also notes that “each store offers about 100 parking spaces, with shading, lockers, and a self-service laundry. Another focus is on fast electric charging stations, ideal for shopping in 30 minutes.”
“In Anadia and Porto de Mós, the new stores were designed according to high standards of energy efficiency and comfort, including LED lighting, solar panels, and sustainable mobility solutions. The surrounding area of these stores has also undergone significant redevelopment, including improvements to sidewalks, public transport shelters, and horizontal signage. These investments demonstrate the continuous commitment of Lidl Portugal to modernization, sustainability, and a positive impact on the communities where it operates,” it states.
The group further reports that, “committed to creating value, Lidl retained the teams from the now-replaced stores and strengthened them with additional hires, offering, as usual, permanent contracts. The Anadia store employs 20 staff members, 3 of whom are new hires. Meanwhile, the Porto de Mós store now employs 26 people (including 6 new hires).”
“With these openings, Lidl Portugal strengthens its presence from north to south of the country, offering larger, more comfortable, and technologically advanced spaces, making the shopping experience simpler, faster, and more enjoyable,” concludes the supermarket group.
Celebrating 30 years in Portugal this year, Lidl states that “it has over 8,000 employees, distributed across more than 280 stores from north to south of the country and, in addition to its headquarters, operates 4 regional offices and warehouses: Santo Tirso (North), Torres Novas (West), Loures (Center), and Palmela (South).”
