Swimming was previously discouraged due to the detection of pathogenic bacteria (‘Escherichia coli’ and intestinal enterococci) in the water.
However, a new water quality analysis indicated that microbiological values were within quality standards, leading to the lifting of the swimming advisory.
This marked the fifth occasion since the start of the bathing season that swimming was discouraged at Matosinhos beach, as stated by the National Information System for Water Resources (SNIRH).
In 2024, the water at Matosinhos beach was classified as poor, following an acceptable rating in 2023 and a good rating in 2022.
In the municipality of Matosinhos, located in the district of Porto, the bathing season commenced on June 14 and concludes on September 14.
