An aircraft operated by TAP was forced to return to Humberto Delgado Airport in Lisbon this Friday after being struck by lightning, which reportedly caused one of its engines to lose power.
The incident involved a flight bound for Venice, Italy, which departed from Lisbon around 1 p.m. TAP explained that the plane “landed as a precaution in Lisbon, where it arrived safely, after being struck by lightning.”
It has been reported that after the lightning strike — a phenomenon typically both common and harmless — one of the engines lost power, prompting an onboard warning indicating a propulsion failure.
At the time of takeoff, the effects of Storm Claudia were being felt across the country, resulting in numerous incidents and damage. The plane was reportedly hit near Ponte de Sor. This weather phenomenon has already claimed two lives, a couple aged 88, who were found deceased in a submerged house in Fernão Ferro, Setúbal district.
