At the ANA – Aeroportos de Portugal website around 10 a.m., data showed 14 flights canceled, both arrivals and departures, including later scheduled flights. These cancellations had been previously announced.
A representative from the Sindicato das Indústrias Metalúrgicas e Afins (SIMA) indicated an expectation of 18 to 19 total cancellations today, although a lower participation in this second strike day is anticipated.
Nonetheless, the representative reported a “complete disorganization,” citing “delayed flights” and insufficient staff to handle the workload.
On its website, ANA issued a notice warning passengers that due to the strike affecting companies like TAP, operational disruptions at the airport may occur between July 25-28, August 8-11, August 15-18, August 22-25, and August 29-Sept 1. Passengers are encouraged to contact their airline or travel agent before heading to the airport.
Menzies employees embarked on their second four-day strike on Friday, part of five planned summer stoppages coinciding with peak tourism season. The company and union have exchanged accusations over an unwillingness to dialogue.
The strikes were called by the Sindicato das Indústrias Metalúrgicas e Afins (SIMA) and the Sindicato dos Transportes (ST), demanding an end to base wages below the national minimum, better salaries, and proper payment for night hours, among other demands. This strike period started at midnight on Friday and will conclude at midnight on Monday.
