Lisbon Airport with 6 flights canceled on the day of the strike at Menzies

According to figures accessed on ANA – Aeroportos de Portugal’s website, by around 10 a.m., approximately six flights were canceled, both arrivals and departures. A source from the Sindicato das Indústrias Metalúrgicas e Afins (SIMA) estimates at least two more cancellations, with the total number possibly reaching up to 14.

The same source indicates “significant delays” in operations, criticizing the company for not allowing “a fair strike.”

On its website, ANA issued a warning, advising passengers that due to the company’s strike, which services various airlines such as TAP, there may be disruptions in airport operations during the following periods: July 25 to 28; August 8 to 11; August 15 to 18; August 22 to 25; and August 29 to September 1. Passengers are urged to contact their airline or travel agent before heading to the airport.

Workers of Menzies began their second four-day strike on Friday, part of a total of five strikes planned for the summer, peak tourist season, with the company and union exchanging accusations of being unwilling to negotiate.

The strikes were called by the Sindicato das Indústrias Metalúrgicas e Afins (SIMA) and the Transport Workers Union (ST), demanding the end of base salaries below the national minimum, improved wages, compliance with the payment of night hours, among other claims. This second period, which started at midnight on Friday, is set to end at midnight on Monday.
