Lisbon and Porto metropolitan transport systems strengthen mobility strategies

In a statement, TML and TMP announced their collaboration to promote an efficient, integrated, and sustainable mobility system in the metropolitan areas of Lisbon and Porto.

Under the agreement, the two entities will cooperate in developing and optimizing integrated ticketing systems and strategic planning for metropolitan mobility.

Managing and monitoring transport operations and public service contracts, along with public communication and information, are also key objectives.

According to TML and TMP, the agreement highlights a commitment to sharing knowledge, technologies, and best practices for developing more effective and sustainable public transport solutions, benefiting citizens.

“The collaboration between the two entities will align strategies and implement innovative technological solutions, ensuring a more efficient and accessible mobility experience for users,” they emphasize.

TML and TMP are thus committed to modernizing urban mobility and promoting a transportation system that is more accessible, sustainable, innovative, and oriented toward population needs.

Created by the Lisbon Metropolitan Area (AML) four years ago, TML manages the tariff and ticketing system in the AML and operates the road transport company Carris Metropolitana.

TMP, established in January 2025, took over the management of the intermodal ticketing system Andante in the Porto Metropolitan Area and oversees and regulates contracts for the various operators in the UNIR network, serving as a regulatory body for public transport mobility in the region, according to the statement.

The creation of TML and TMP aimed to unify transport management in the region, promoting a more efficient and accessible network, they add.
