The Lisbon City Council announced that a ceremony will be held in the main hall of Paços do Concelho at 5:30 pm, during which the Mayor, Carlos Moedas, will present Natércia Salgueiro Maia, widow of Salgueiro Maia, with the Medal of Honor of the City. This posthumous honor recognizes the “Captain of April, face of the revolution.”
A tribute to Salgueiro Maia was unanimously approved on December 18, 2024, following a proposal by the Livre party, as part of the celebrations marking the 50th anniversary of April 25.
The local government had previously decided to grant the Key to the City of Honor to the captain of April, planning for the ceremony to occur “during the month of April 2025.”
