The Lisbon City Council has partnered with a supermarket chain to offer 335 free night-time parking spaces across six locations for city residents upon registration, the municipality announced today.
Three of the parking areas, located at Belenenses, Olivais Sul, and Infante D. Henrique, are now available, while the remaining three at Carnide, Laranjeiras, and Xabregas will open by the end of the month, according to the council.
This initiative involves the Lidl supermarket chain and EMEL, the municipal mobility and parking company, providing the spaces in supermarket store lots throughout the city.
“Residents can use these spaces for free between store closing time and 8:30 AM the following day by signing up at Lidl stores or on the EMEL website,” stated the council in a press release.
This scheme, aimed at increasing parking availability for city residents, will be publicly unveiled on Friday with Lisbon Mayor Carlos Moedas (PSD) attending, at the Lidl parking facility of Clube de Futebol Os Belenenses on Avenida do Restelo.
The council described the initiative as a “pioneering project” utilizing already constructed parking spaces at commercial establishments that were previously unused at night, now accessible without requiring additional investment.
“Lidl is the first major supermarket chain to join this project,” noted the municipality.
Additionally, since March 19, Lisbon City Council has offered 3,500 night-time parking spaces across 36 EMEL and Telpark facilities in 14 of the city’s 24 parishes, available to residents for 22 euros per month.
These parking spaces, meant for city residents, are accessible through the Avença Noturna subscription, allowing for vehicle parking at EMEL or Telpark locations between 6:00 PM and 10:00 AM on weekdays and all day on weekends and holidays, as per council information.
