The Lisbon City Council announced that an exercise, part of FÉNIX 25, will be conducted by the Portuguese Army at University City’s Alameda da Universidade.
The aim is to simulate the mobilization of the population to safe zones in the event of serious accidents or disasters, known as “emergency meeting points,” thus facilitating the coordination of relief operations and the assistance of civil protection teams.
According to the municipality, Lisbon has 86 predefined Emergency Points.
“The location of the meeting points was technically assessed based on criteria such as exposure to natural and technological risks, capacity to accommodate a large number of people, accessibility, condition of adjacent buildings, as well as other characteristics of the surrounding area,” the statement reads.
