Two 30-year-old men were arrested on the night of July 25 after chasing and robbing a 17-year-old teenager in the Benfica parish of Lisbon.
“The suspects took advantage of the fact that the victim, a 17-year-old, had just left the building where he resides and had collected an envelope delivered by a TVDE driver, to approach him, attempting to forcibly introduce him into a vehicle where a third suspect was at the wheel. The victim managed to escape and fled,” detailed the Polícia de Segurança Pública (PSP) in a statement sent to the media on Thursday.
The two suspects pursued the teenager, firing a shot from a firearm. Consequently, the young man dropped the envelope.
The duo was intercepted and detained by authorities, although the third participant fled, according to the PSP.
Authorities noted that the envelope was not intended for the teenager but for “another person who could not be questioned.” “It is only known that the envelope contained a monetary amount, the value of which could not be determined,” they added.
The PSP did not manage to seize the envelope and the firearm, suspecting that the items were given to “the third suspect who continued in the vehicle.”
The men appeared for a preliminary judicial interrogation and are required to report to authorities biweekly.
This operation was conducted by the Lisbon Metropolitan Command of the PSP through the Criminal Investigation Division.
