Lisbon Culture Bookstore will be inaugurated in Baixa to “tell the city”

The Lisbon Municipality has emphasized the cultural importance of the book with the opening of Livraria Lisboa Cultura, described as “a space to tell the city” and “an anchor for the knowledge and discovery of the city.” The bookstore, situated at numbers 22 and 23 of Praça D. Pedro IV (Rossio), neighbors the iconic Café Nicola and Tabacaria Mónaco. It boasts a catalog of over 1,500 titles either published or co-published by the municipality, focusing largely on Lisbon.

“In addition to municipal titles, books from various publishers focusing on the city are available. Each publication narrates a facet of Lisbon,” explained the municipality.

The bookstore aims to be a lively space, with books as the starting point, featuring “a regular program of talks, presentations, and activities, collaborating in the city’s cultural promotion,” echoing “the activities of municipal agents—valuing them—in permanent collaboration.”

The grand opening is scheduled for 3:00 PM, followed by a literary tour of Rossio at 4:00 PM to discover the literary references of this noble square, and at 6:00 PM, a discussion about the bookstore’s catalog will take place.

The city’s mayor, Carlos Moedas (PSD), announced during the presentation of the Lisbon Book Fair in May that Livraria Lisboa Cultura will primarily sell publications by the municipality, many of which are not widely available, such as works on Marquês de Pombal and Ressano Garcia.

Livraria Lisboa Cultura will operate from Monday to Saturday, 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM, a project developed in collaboration by the Municipal Directorate of Culture and the municipal company Lisboa Cultura.
