The American film festival Tribeca will have a Portuguese edition, which will take place in October in Lisbon, with the presence of director Robert de Niro and producer Jane Rosenthal, it was announced today.

The Tribeca Festival Lisboa will take place between October 17 and 19 and is the result of a partnership between Tribeca Enterprises, television station SIC, streaming platform OPTO and Lisbon City Council.

In a statement, the Impresa group – which owns SIC and OPTO – explains that the festival “will consist of an opening night followed by a two-day event in the Beato Innovation District, in Lisbon’s riverside area”.

In addition to Robert de Niro and Jane Rosenthal, who co-founded the Tribeca festival in 2002 in New York, the Lisbon edition will be attended by director Patty Jenkins, actress Whoopi Goldberg and actor Griffin Dunne.

The program will feature Portuguese and foreign films, talks “with Portuguese and international talent, immersive installations, networking opportunities”, among other activities, reads the press release.

Quoted in a statement, actor Robert de Niro said that “at its core, Tribeca aims to uplift a community of artists – whether that community is south of 14th Street in Manhattan or across the Atlantic Ocean in Lisbon”.
