Circulation on the Lisbon Metro has returned to normal this Tuesday after service started late due to a partial strike, which is scheduled to occur again on Thursday.
According to information available on the transport company’s website, circulation is currently “normal” on all four lines.
Metro workers have decided to proceed with the partial strikes scheduled for today and Thursday following a meeting held on Monday night, where the company’s proposals were rejected.
After an inconclusive meeting on Monday afternoon, workers reconvened at 11:30 PM, deciding to reject the company’s proposal and maintain the partial strikes, stated Sara Gligó from the Federation of Transport and Communications Unions (FECTRANS).
Sara Gligó mentioned that today’s partial strike will occur, leaving the possibility open for the strike scheduled for Thursday.

The unions representing the workers have filed a pre-strike notice for September 9 and 11, from 5:00 AM to 10:00 AM, affecting service during this period.

“It depends on the company’s proposal, but expectations are low,” she emphasized.
In a statement today, Lisbon Metro expressed regret that the partial strike declared by the Workers’ Representative Organizations (ORTs) was not suspended.
“The company has done everything to avoid these stoppages and remains committed to continuing negotiations with the workers to resolve these differences,” the note stated.
According to the transport company, “two negotiating proposals based on principles previously established in the 2023 Company Agreement were presented, aiming to address the submitted demands with balance, responsibility, and respect for the company’s sustainability limits, in line with the union’s demands.”
However, the unions have decided to maintain the strike, the company notes, stating it remains fully open to dialogue “aiming for a balanced and sustainable agreement.”
Sara Gligó mentioned on Monday afternoon that the unions had met with the Lisbon Metro administration, which “reiterated the proposal previously presented.”
The strike will run from 5:00 AM to 10:00 AM for operational workers, from 7:00 AM to 12:00 PM for maintenance workers, from 7:30 AM to 12:30 PM for fixed and administrative staff, and from 2:00 AM to 7:00 AM for night and track service workers.
The Lisbon Metro stated that the arbitration court did not decree minimum services for these partial strikes, and the service will only open from 10:30 AM.
The demands include increases in meal, holiday, and Christmas allowances, as well as changes in the maximum weekly working hours.
Lisbon Metro operates daily with four lines: Yellow (Rato-Odivelas), Green (Telheiras-Cais do Sodré), Blue (Reboleira-Santa Apolónia), and Red (Aeroporto-São Sebastião).
Typically, the metro runs from 6:30 AM to 1:00 AM.
